Dear Parent or Guardian,

You and your child have the opportunity to be published!

I recently received an email from a publisher who is creating a series of books entitled “Letters To…”  The books are a compilation of personal letters.   Simply compose a heartfelt, personal letter to someone special in your life.  It could be to your mother, father, grandparent(s), sister, brother, hero, teacher, coach, mentor, or just someone who has done something to touch your life in a special way.

This year, as a class assignment, we wrote and delivered letters of gratitude.  Many students described this experience as “truly meaningful” and “powerful.” I encourage you to not only read their letters, but also write your own. This is a rare opportunity to write and publish together.
In order to be published, your child needs your permission. To approve, send an email to epermission@theletterstoseries.com. In the subject line, type Ms. Marranzini, Philadelphia, PA. Please include the following information in your email:

1) your child's first and last name

 2) city and state

 3) your name and a short statement giving your child permission to participate
The publishers prefer receiving student writing from the teacher.  As an adult, you have the option of submitting at the website --www.theletterstoseries.com, or sending your letters along with your child’s, to me at amarranzini@hotmail.com

Since this time of year is quite busy, I am accepting submissions until the end of June.  All submissions should include your full name (only first names will be used for published letters), age, city, state, and relationship of the person to whom you are writing.

I am thrilled that this opportunity has presented itself.  It is my hope that both you and your child will participate.

Thank you,
Ms. Marranzini

Parents! Unite for 5th and 6th grade transportation

Read letters from concerned parents organizing at Masterman

"Masterman is probably the only public school in the State of Pennsylvania that does not receive bus service for its middle school students. The other Philadelphia magnet middle schools (Gamp etc.) receive yellow bus service. The district provides bus transportation for students attending private suburban schools within a 10 mile radius of the city line but does nothing for the top students in the district. Only in Philadelphia!"

A free SEPTA ride for some students | Inquirer | 08/15/2007*Weekly Student Transpasses will be made available to the students enrolled from 7th to 12th grades who live distances greater than 1.5 miles from Masterman.  The weekly Student Transpasses may only be used between the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.  All other students may purchase a weekly Student Transpass for $15.00.  Though no longer sold at school, students who have tokens purchased last year may still use them and are entitled to a free transfer.

For parents of students in 5th and 6th grades who live 1.5 miles or further from school, these children are not be entitled to the weekly Student Transpass as the Masterman School is not a “regularly assigned school”.   Unfortunately, transportation costs for children in these classes who use SEPTA will increase approximately $5.00 per week.  Please contact John Lombardi of the Philadelphia School District at (215) 400-4350 for additional information.
