Executive Committee Meeting Minutes

- Treasurer’s Report: Staff Grant Request due 11/15/07. Review
Meeting to be scheduled.
Principal’s Report
- Sr. Healy Ko was honored by the School Reform Commission as the Senior
of the Month.
- School Council: Ad hoc committee will be established to discuss
the issue of overcrowding. Will be considering multiple options.
- Mrs. Neff will be lobbying the School District and the SRC for additional
funds to improve technology. School Council will also be lobbying
for more funds. It is not clear how schools were selected to receive
additional monies for technology or whether Masterman is included on the
list of schools targeted for technology enhancement.
Events
- Academic Affairs 11/28/07. Topic: “ Adjustment to Masterman” Guest
Speakers: Mrs. Neff, Mr. Boback and Ms. Tait.
- General Home and School Meeting: January 22nd, 2008. This
will be a combined effort of Social and Academic Affairs Committees. There
will be a Dessert Potluck Social followed by an Academic Affairs Program. Topic
TBA.
Items of Interest/Concerns
- Transportation Issues/Update – H&S has sent letters to two
members of the SRC (Mr. Bednarek & Mr. Gallagher) requesting an exception
be made so that 5th & 6th graders at Masterman can receive transpasses. No
response to the letters or phone calls to date.
- Revision of H & S By-Laws: No volunteers. Sheri Gifford
will approach Paul Ricker, Facilitator for School Council, as he did a
great job revising the Masterman School Council Bylaws.
- Directory Update: Directory has been delayed due to a major computer
problem which is now resolved. Should be ready to go to the printer
by the end of November. Distribution expected mid December.
Committees
- Academic Affairs: Working on several programs some of which will
be presented at General H&S meetings. One new topic is “Technology
in the Social Community” (Facebook, MySpace, Texting etc.). Tentatively
scheduled for February, 2008, presented by Principal of Science Leadership
Academy.
- Auction: Efforts well underway to make our second annual auction
a huge success. Goal is to raise $30,000 to enhance technology at
Masterman. Several special items already secured for live auction.
- Facilities: October Work Party was a success – many volunteers
including individuals from Philadelphia Cares.
- Logo: Fall sale has been launched. Flyer posted on website. Final
date for placing orders is December 7th, 2007.
- Library: Scholastic Book Fair, December 13th through 19th, 2007. Volunteers
are needed. Contact Andrea Stroh (astroh10/21@hotmail.com)
- Social: Plans in progress include - Skating Party, Martin Luther
King Day of Service and Dessert Potluck Social. Future events – Bowling,
Book Discussion, and Chocolate Tasting.
- Staff Luncheon: May 16th, 2008.
- Parents United Update (email just received) – All are invited to
