Seniors:
       All seniors and their parents should register for their FAFSA (Free Application for  Federal Student Aid)  pin numbers now.  Student and parent pin numbers are needed in order to sign the FAFSA form electronically.  Since the FAFSA form cannot be submitted until after January 1, 2008, be sure to write down each pin number so you will have it when you submit your FAFSA.  To apply for a pin number, go to www.pin.ed.gov.

      Many private colleges and universities require an additional financial aid form called the CSS/Financial Aid Profile.  To determine which schools require this information and to register, go to www.collegeboard.com/profile.

 

Summer Opportunities:

The PACAC Main Line College Fair will take place at Villanova University on Wednesday, April 29, 2008 from 6:30 - 9:00 pm. This is a great opportunity to meet and speak with college admissions persons.

Drexel University has announced the creation of a one-week summer institute for high-ability rising juniors and seniors who are considering a career in law. The program cost is $500 which includes meals and all activities. A limited number of need-based scholarships are available. See your counselor for an application.

Canada/USA Math Camp – This camp is for mathematically talented high school student from around the world, and will be held at Reed College in Portland Oregon. Applications received by April 30th will receive full consideration, applications received after will be evaluated on a space available basis. Applicants can be 13-18, and there is a $20.00 application fee, which is waived if you apply online- http://www.mathcamp.org/applicant. There are scholarships available for qualified students.

Wellesley College – The Junior Open Campus program for high school juniors – check out Wellesley College. The event includes student panels, workshops on the admission process, financial aid, and essay writing, as well as some sample classes and student-led campus tours. For more information visit: www.wellesley.edu/Admissions/JOC.

Smith College – Simply Smith – If you’re a sophomore or a junior, you might want to preview Smith College. Student and families can come to Smith College campus to learn abut selecting and applying to colleges, and to get a chance to experience Smith campus. Workshops will be offered all day. For more information and to register online visit www.smith.edu/admission.

The University of Texas at Austin – Summer Academy in Architecture – The academy prepares students for academic and professional pursuits in architecture, primarily through the development of an individual body of work in design and through exposure to prominent academics and professionals. There is a 3 week Young scholars program for students age 15-17, as well as a 5 week Introduction to the Profession (high school students who have completed their junior year. For more information call 1-512-471-9890 or email caad@list.cc.utexas.edu.
